Abscission means leaf drop and can happen for any number of reasons but mainly it's the seasonal changes that occur every year with deciduous trees in temperate climates. Oak leaves are my fall favorite with their twists and curls suggesting movements of a seasonal dance. Some would say that oak leaves turn mostly brown and just fall off and I would say look again.
